More Greenville restaurants close after positive COVID-19 tests

More Greenville restaurants made announcements Thursday about closings or positive tests amid the coronavirus outbreak, while a downtown restaurant that had closed last week has reopened.

Halls Chophouse

Halls Chophouse Greenville, on Main Street, announced that two employees tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

The statement from Jim Wahlstrom, director of human resources and operations for Hall Management Group, did not say that the restaurant was closing.

Wahlstrom said DHEC was notified about the two separate cases, and that the restaurant followed CDC guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing any area with which the employees came into contact.

"Neither employee had direct contact with guests, and one worked alone," Wahlstrom said. "Anyone who tests positive, must test negative in the future before returning to work – or until the appropriate time recommended by the CDC."

Smiley's Acoustic Cafe

Smiley's Acoustic Cafe, on Augusta Street, said someone in the building last weekend tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

"For the safety of our guests and team, effective immediately, Smiley’s will be closed until further notice," the post said. "Our entire team is being tested and we are having the restaurant professionally sanitized."
