Dallas mom shoots man who took her car with kids inside

A young Dallas mother shot a man who tried to steal her SUV with her two young kids in the backseat.

The frightening ordeal occurred at a gas station on July 4th. Michelle Booker-Hooks left her kids, who are two and four, in the car as she got out to pump gas. A man, later identified as 36-year-old Ricky Wright, then jumped into her vehicle and was about to drive away.

That's when she ran back to the car, reached into the glove compartment and grabbed her gun. When Wright wouldn't stop, she shot him in the face. The SUV then crashed into a pole. Neither Booker-Hooks nor her kids were injured.

Wright was hospitalized in serious but stable condition, charged with unlawful restraint and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Booker-Hicks, who just recently got the gun and doesn't have a license for it, says, "I wasn’t necessarily worried about my car. I was more worried about my kids. I had to do what I had to do to defend what was mine, which are my kids." (KDFW-TV)
