Hospice Patient's Last Wish Was to Watch Battle of Winterfell Before Dying

Game of thrones fan in hospice gets ten video messages sent to her by the cast

An elderly hospice patient in Providence, Rhode Island had just one final request before she died: To meet the cast of her favorite HBO show, "Game of Thrones." However, 88-year-old Claire Walton knew she didn't have that long and amended her wish, saying she only hoped to make it to the third episode "The Battle of Winterfell," which aired Sunday night.

Ten cast members came together to help grant Walton's wish as she watched the third episode of the season accompanied by ten video messages sent by the actors who played Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham), Pypar (Josef Altin), Ser Meryn Trant (Ian Beattie) a White Walker, Qhono (Staz Nair) and Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou).

"Our patient Claire’s big wish was to watch the third episode of Game of Thrones tonight," HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence wrote on Facebook. "We did one better! Game of Thrones cast sent videos of well wishes, to the delight of Claire and her family. #Hospice #MoreMoments #GameofThrones."

"How ya doing, Claire? It’s Liam here. You might know me as Sir Davos Seaworth," Liam Cunningham said in his video to Walton. "I hope you’re fit enough to watch the battle, which is tonight. I wish you the very best."

Yerolemou, who played Syrio Forel, the First Sword of Braavos, told Walton he hoped his message would put a smile on her face.

"I know you can’t be here today but I just wanted to say hello and that you are with us in spirit and that we’re thinking of you and sending you all our love. And I hope this message brings a smile to your face," Yerolemou said.

“Someone said you were a really big fan of ‘Game of Thrones,’ so I just wanted to make this video and send it you and to send you my love and well wishes. Enjoy this Sunday. It’s going down. Lots of love, darling,” said Altin, who played Pypar.

Because the actors were in their street clothes and out of costume, some of them had to give Walton clues to who they played on the show.

"Imagine a beard. A beard, long hair and a horse," Staz Nair said, trying to describe his character while laughing.

"I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful episode three, the Battle of Winterfell," Ian Beattie told Walton while teasing the big battle in episode 3. "I hear it's going to be the best episode ever."

The third episode of the season 'Battle of Winterfell' aired Sunday night. Walton passed away the next afternoon.

HBO is airing the final season of "Game of Thrones" with its series finale scheduled to air on May 19.
