Spartanburg superintendent says he has tested positive for coronavirus

An Upstate school official has tested positive for coronavirus. Spartanburg School District 4 superintendent Dr. W. Rallie Liston told WYFF News 4 Sunday he received the test results last Wednesday.

Viewers sent messages asking about potential cases in the district. Liston said another school district employee tested positive about two weeks ago, but he said he had no contact with the employee and the case was separate.

Liston said he and the employee have been in self-quarantine for at least two weeks, but didn't give a specific date when he or the employee contracted the virus.

Liston said he notified school district staff as soon as he knew about the coronavirus test results. He says he was in Charleston on March 10 and did a presentation at a state meeting. While there, he said he felt ill. Liston said he went to an Urgent Care facility in James Island, where he got a Z-Pak.

Liston said when he returned to Woodruff, he asked his doctor for an antibiotic. The superintendent thought he had bronchitis, as he noticed his energy getting worse. He said he ran a fever of about 99 for a few hours.
