Upstate motel abruptly shuts down, leaving residents homeless

A motel that served a home to many who didn't have one, closed abruptly Tuesday, forcing them to pack up their lives in a matter of hours and leaving them with nowhere else to go.

People living at the Deluxe Inn on Mauldin's Main Street said they had to be out of the building by 5 p.m.

The motel's manager Marcqualyn Tillman said they are making repairs and hope to reopen with 15 days.

"This is a small business. It's an old business," she said. "A lot of things here need to be updated. We're trying the best way we can just to get everything together so we can get these people back into their homes."

People who lived at the motel said they got no warning until Tuesday morning.
