Clemson tuition, fees frozen, plans being made for fall

Fees and tuition for the upcoming school year will not increase at Clemson University.

The school's board of trustees approved the freeze Thursday morning. Leaders also agreed to a "continuing resolution" budget for the upcoming fiscal year that makes no changes to the budget in place.

Clemson's financial team projects coronavirus will have a negative $14.7 million impact on the school, assuming most functions return to normal in the fall.

There has been a reduction in some expenses, including $2.8 million in reduced athletic expenses and $3.3 million in savings thanks to travel restrictions.

"The biggest impact that could influence the financial health of CUAD (the athletic department) is whether the pandemic impacts fall sports," read a presentation on fiscal year 2021 budget plans.

Police Chief Greg Mullen said the school is working off of three scenarios for future planning.

The first is a full return in the fall.

"That's our laser focus," Mullen said, "to come back as close to normal as possible."
