One month after one of South Carolina's biggest employer shut down because of the coronavirus outbreak, BMW has announced it will reopen its Upstate plant.
The BMW facility in Greer will reopen on May 4 for the A-shift only, according to the company's Plant Spartanburg Communications Manager Sky Foster.
The B-shift will start May 18, Foster said.
The company said it's staggering its opening by shifts to give all its suppliers time to ramp back up.
The plant stopped operating March 29 because of the disruption in the supply chain caused by the pandemic.
During the non-production time, BMW implemented a variety of deep cleaning and safety measures, the company said in an email. This included disinfecting equipment in all technologies, sanitizing workstations, remodeling layouts to enhance social distancing, and completing preventive maintenance on equipment.
