Upstate school district says meal distribution workers have COVID-19

An Upstate school district is sharing how it's dealing with meal distribution in light of staff testing positive for COVID-19.

Duncan Elementary is the meal distribution point where District Five Schools of Spartanburg County says multiple workers have tested positive for COVID-19.

The district notes more than 100,000 meals have been delivered to students since the school closing started. Last weekend, officials say a worker tested positive for COVID-19. South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control helped the district sort out who was in close contact to the patient.

WYFF News 4 reached out to DHEC on Monday. The agency says it's working to answer our questions.

District Five spokesperson Melissa Robinette says DHEC considered close contact to be within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes.

The people who were in close contact were asked to quarantine for 14 days by DHEC.

"Within 24 hours, we learned that another employee within that closed contact circle was also positive," Robinette said. "So then we go through that circle again."

Since then, two others at the meal distribution operation have tested positive for COVID-19.
