Clemson University announces on-campus return for students in fall

The Clemson University has announced a 3-phase reopening plan geared towards the safe return of in-person and on campus classes and usage of campus residence halls this fall.

The plan, originally outlined in a board of trustees meeting Wednesday, describes the next several months of reopening and gives an idea of what life will look like for students and faculty come August.

Phase One: begins June 1

-Limited return to on-campus operations

-Return of small number of employees (majority will continue to work from home)

-Focused on getting campus back open and functional to welcome back larger group of employees and students

-Will allow university to test and prepare for fall return

Phase Two: begins after 14 day downward trajectory of COVID-19 cases in South Carolina

-More employees welcomed to return to campus

-Focus on return to in-person opportunities

-Vulnerable employees will continue to work remotely

Phase Three: start date TBD

-Campus opens, but follows social distance guidelines

-Gyms and recreational facilities reopen

"Each of the phases will be personalized," said Joe Galbraith with Clemson University communications. "We didn’t make broad strokes like 5% of this or 20% of that so it’ll vary from department to department and areas around campus to the level of need for access to facilities to prepare for the return for students in the fall."
