DHEC: Greenville now a "hot spot" for COVID-19 in South Carolina

Officials with South Carolina Health and Environmental Control announced 390 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, and one additional death. DHEC now considers Greenville a hot spot in South Carolina for COVID-19.

DHEC officials say that brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Carolina to 14,286. A total of 546 South Carolinians have died.

The number of new cases by county in the Upstate is listed here: Abbeville (2), Anderson (8), Cherokee (3), Greenville (57), Laurens (1), Oconee (1), Pickens (7) and Spartanburg (38).

"A core purpose of our statewide testing strategy is to help identify hot spots, and it's working," Dr. Brannon Traxler with DHEC said. "Through expanded testing efforts, we've been able to identify Greenville as a current hot spot in the state, where the number of daily cases has been increased for the past week."

DHEC says 8.7% of tests performed on Saturday came back positive. A total of 246,331 tests have been conducted in the state.
