82-year-old woman charged in deadly motorcycle crash, troopers say

An 82-year-old woman was charged after a deadly crash involving a motorcycle, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 6:20 p.m., Saturday along Piedmont Highway.

Troopers said as Ella Thompson attempted to enter Piedmont Highway from a private driveway, she hit the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, Troopers said.

Thompson is charged with failing to yield right of way.

The coroner identified the victim as Samuel Lee McGarity, 50, of Piedmont.
