Another downtown Greenville restaurant closes after positive COVID-19 test

Another downtown Greenville restaurant announced Tuesday that it was closing because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Barley's Taproom and Pizzaria, on West Washington Street, in Greenville, made the announcement on its Facebook page.

The closing comes less than a week after another downtown restaurant, Jianna, made the same announcement.

Owner Josh Beeby said in the post he was informed Tuesday morning that one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Beeby said the entire staff was in the process of getting tested.

"We will determine upon the test results when we can safely reopen our doors," Beeby said.

Beeby's statement said the employee has not been in the building or in contact with any of the staff since last Thursday.

Beeby said he was closing the doors following guidance from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, as well as that from the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention.

"I would personally like to say that we have been very diligent in wearing face masks, scheduled sanitizing, handwashing and following all the CDC and DHEC guidelines, since reopening in May," Beeby said. "Unfortunately, we can not control what happens outside of this building, but I give you all my word that we will continue to be as safe as physically possible within these walls upon reopening."
