Belton mayor will 'fight back' after intimate video posted to social media

The mayor of Belton released a statement Thursday about a "sensitive" video that is the subject of an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Tiffany Ownbey released the statement through her attorney, Druanne White, who said the mayor intends to "fight back."

Spokesman Tommy Crosby said SLED began the investigation after a request from the Belton Police Department.

Belton Police Chief Robert Young told WYFF News 4, “When the mayor brought this to our attention, I decided, in order to be transparent — keep the integrity of the investigation, I decided this needed to be handed over to SLED.”

Crosby said the mayor is not under investigation herself but the investigation involves her.

He said the video is "of a sensitive nature" and was posted on social media.

Ownbey is the first female mayor of Belton and was elected in November.
