A North Carolina amusement park announced Tuesday it is throwing in the towel on the 2020 season and closing its doors for the rest of the year.
Carowinds Vice President and General Manger Pat Jones saidin a letter posted to the park's websitethat it will remain closed for 2020, blaming the ongoing challenges related to the coronavirus pandemic, and citing guest and associate safety.
"Although we have done our due diligence in developing a comprehensive safety plan in accordance with industry and public health standards, the continued uncertainty in our region surrounding COVID-19 as well as the diminishing number of calendar days left in the 2020 operating season, has brought us to the difficult decision to keep the park closed for the rest of the year," Jones said.
All 2020 season pass holders will receive vouchers valid for purchases within the park next season, according to Jones.
Day tickets sold for the 2020 season will be valid through Sept. 6, 2021.
