South Carolina police officer dies following shooting

A Myrtle Beach police officer died following a shooting Saturday night, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

The officer has been identified as Jacob Hancher.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. in the 400 block of 14th Avenue South. Agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating.

“Today we are mourning the loss of one of our officers,” Chief Amy Prock stated early Sunday morning. “PFC Jacob Hancher was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call for service.”
