All South Carolina voters given green light to vote in-person absentee

A line stretched well around the Greenville County election office Monday morning as Greenville County voters had the chance to cast in-person absentee ballots for the first time.

"We don’t wanna be out here in November because of our age, some of us have health issues," said Renora Croft of Greenville.

Croft and Cynthia Headen were the first ones in line Monday morning, standing outside by 6:45 a.m. The office itself doesn't open until 8:30 a.m.

They saved the top spot for their 81-year-old mother.

"I’d rather do things right now, right here and make sure my mother gets her vote in also," said Headen.

Others were not far behind.

"We've got to make sure that we respect distancing," said Rev. Carrie Tillman of Greenville. "(COVID-19) is alive and kicking. That’s why I’m here so early, to get it done."
