Popular Upstate recreation center reopens after 8 months of renovations

The Pavilion in Taylors is set to reopen to the public after a multi-million dollar renovation project.

It was all part of phase two of a project for the Greenville County Recreation Center location, which crews began working on back in March. The facility has been closed to the public ever since.

Now that they're finished, the facility features four new locker rooms. There hadn't been any official locker rooms there in prior years.

It also features an expansion of the main lobby, new flooring, a new ceiling and more office space.

"Phase two has been in development for the past five years and it has brought much-needed space to alleviate all of the user groups that use our facility on a daily basis," said Jai Gilliland, the facility manager at The Pavilion.

Built in 1990, use of The Pavilion has tripled since it first opened.

More than 300,000 people use the space each year, according to a release from the county.
