Before going viral with her single “Boston,” Stella Lefty had to overcome “the worst stage fright.
The iHeartCountry On The Verge Artist, 23, reflected on her stage fright while catching up with Bobby Bones on a new episode of The BobbyCast on Tuesday (July 28). Lefty admitted she had “the worst stage fright,” and recalled being asked to serve as the lead singer of her friends’ band during a fraternity-organized event. Ultimately, she said she had to back out of the performance.
“I had huge stage fright. Huge. Like, would not sing in front of anybody,” Lefty said in a clip from The BobbyCast shared on Instagram. “Did one show. We had like a frat-organized something. There was this band, like a bunch of my — some of my guy friends were trying to do this band and sing at this frat thing. And they asked me to be the lead singer, and I said ‘yes.’ And then, like, three weeks go by. We haven’t rehearsed yet, and I’m like, ‘I can’t do it.’ Back out. And then there was like one time where I did sing covers. …I had the worst stage fright. Like, I would not get on stage.”
Throughout the conversation with Bobby Bones, Lefty also spoke “about the unfinished TikTok that changed everything when ‘Boston’ unexpectedly took off.” Lefty recently shared that “‘Boston’ is a song I wrote when I was waiting on a guy who was picking me up. I couldn’t stop thinking about him, and this is what I was feeling while I was waiting for him.” On The BobbyCast, the singer-songwriter continued to open up about “why she hid her musical ambitions and the bold DM that led to her first Nashville writing session,” plus, her journey “moving from Chicago to New Orleans and Los Angeles, becoming an artist after writing for others and how she met her boyfriend, Vincent Mason.”
