The official cause of death was listed as hypertrophic heart disease, which makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood and often goes undiagnosed. Alcohol was also a contributing factor.TMZ reports that St. John, who had been released from treatment for depression days earlier, was "on an alcohol binge at the time of his death." His son Julian had committed suicide in 2014.
St. John's death was ruled an accident.
