Adam Levine is leaving The Voice after 16 seasons.

Gwen Stefani will replace him and join Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend as judges for next season. Levine won the show three times.

Adam posted, “About 8 years ago, Mark Burnett convinced us to sign up for this show where you sit in a big red chair with your back turned away from the singers on the stage. First thank you must go to Mark. We had no idea what we were doing or where it was going,” he began the message. “After the first day of shooting, I sat there, stunned. I said to myself “there’s some magic here. Something is definitely happening.” It went on to be a life shaping experience that will be close to my heart forever.”

Blake Shelton tweeted, Having a hard time wrapping my head around @adamlevine not being at @NBCTheVoice anymore. After 16 seasons that changed both of ours lives. I only found out about this yesterday and it hasn’t set in on me yet. Gonna miss working with that idiot.

A source tells Radar Online, “He was acting up like a petulant kid in front of the crew and other judges. He’s super difficult on the show set and even worst when he’s in a new environment with a new crowd to show-off to!”

TV Line claims Adam was upset with NBC because they made him tape the show's semifinal performances even though he had no contestants competing in the semis. The site claims Adam was also upset with producers because of a rule change that no longer guaranteed each coach the same number of team members during the live playoffs. This left him with no singers by the time the semifinals arrived.

A source tells People magazine, “He’s been wanting to move on for a while. They wanted him to stay but he just really wanted to move on. It’s something he’s been talking to [host] Carson [Daly] and the other coaches about for some time. He really didn’t like some of the changes to the format of the show last season, and it’s just time for him to leave. It wouldn’t be surprising if he came back to visit the show though. There’s new music coming soon for him, he’ll be touring and he plans to continue acting. He’s staying busy.”

A source tells Hollywoodlife.com, “He is likely done for good but always will have the invite to come back down the line if he changes his mind. Adam is a tough pill to swallow and he definitely goes to the beat of his own drum but he is a part of the fabric that made The Voice tick and Mark Burnett respects what he has done for the show and would welcome him back even though he doesn’t expect him back.”

Hollywoodlife.com claimsBlake Shelton is looking forward to Gwen Stefani replacing Adam Levine on The Voice.A source tells the website, ‘’Blake is friends with Adam and that won’t change. He will miss the banter with Adam, but Blake is going to love working with Gwen again. Blake’s looking forward to being tested by Gwen, because that is going to add a real fun element to the show. It was a complete no brainer to bring her back because the show always wants to play off Blake in any way that they can, and Gwen was the clear and best choice.’’
