That was a crazy morning on The Ellis and Bradley Show. Wednesday October 24, 2018 when we learned that someone bought the winning $1.5 Mega Millions ticket at the KC Mart #7 on Lee Vaughn Road in Simpsonville. The woman, who's identity is still unknown decided to hire a New York attorney, Jason Kurland who called himself "The Lottery Lawyer" to handle her windfall. What unfolded in the months that followed is the worst kind of scandal.
Nearly 6 months after her win, in March of 2019, Kurland, representing the woman, came forward with a statement of her gratitude, that she would be making donations to many South Carolina charities, including some in Simpsonville from her lump sum payout of $877 Million Dollars. Kurland and a few of his dubious associates swindled her and other lottery winners to the tune of $107 Million and an eye popping $83 Million of that came from this woman's winnings.
In July of 2022, Kurland was convicted by a jury of 5 counts of wire fraud and money laundering in connection with these misdeeds. IF you're lucky enough to win this or any big money lottery. Keep the circle tight and research extensively who you entrust your money to.
