Lunchbox Wins a Class Action Lawsuit, but Is It Real?

Lunchbox won a lawsuit, marking what he called his second courtroom victory after previously beating a parking ticket.

He learned about a class action lawsuit involving Blue Cross Blue Shield and immediately signed up because he was a customer. Lunchbox said the lawsuit materials suggested participants could receive significant payouts, and after several months he received an email informing him that he had won. The payout totaled $28.

While Lunchbox celebrated the result, the rest of the show questioned whether the settlement was legitimate. Bobby and the others were particularly interested in how Lunchbox received the money and whether he had shared any personal financial information. At first, Lunchbox said the money had been deposited into his bank account. As the conversation continued, he clarified that he had actually received the payment through Venmo and later transferred it to his bank account. That revelation immediately raised concerns among the show. Bobby reminded listeners that Lunchbox had previously been hacked through his Robinhood account after responding to a fraudulent message requesting his login credentials. Lunchbox went through his emails and found information indicating that settlement payments had recently begun to be distributed, which appeared to support his claim.

The discussion then focused on whether class action settlements typically pay participants through Venmo. Bobby read information suggesting that most settlements are paid by check or direct deposit rather than through payment apps. This led to more questions about how the settlement administrators obtained Lunchbox’s Venmo information. Lunchbox had voluntarily provided his Venmo account details when completing the claim process. He maintained that he never shared his bank account information and only submitted the information requested.

Despite the skepticism, Lunchbox insisted he had not been scammed and pointed to the fact that he had successfully received the $28 payment. He also noted that the lawsuit involved a multibillion-dollar settlement and that he had originally found information about it through a news story. Despite that, Bobby advised Lunchbox to closely monitor his accounts and promised that if it eventually turned out to be a scam, the show would support him rather than make fun of him.
